My husband's great grandfather, was the very first Station Master of Wirksworth Station when it opened in 1867. My husband trained to be a Turner in the 1960's, making engine parts on a lathe, at Derby Locomotive Works. The love of trains has most definitely continued in the family.
We recently had a ride on this heritage steam train between the town of Wirksworth and the City of Derby. It's approximately a 20 mile return trip.............and very enjoyable and nostalgic it is too.

Sometimes we all need hugs. They help in ways we can't get from drugs. Especially if we are feeling sad or dealing with a tragedy. Don't be afraid to ask for a hug from a friend. Or relative. Or lover. Or someone with a "Free Hugs" sign.

We are just back from a vacation in Ladakh, Northern India. We stayed at peoples homes where we, for a short period, were part of the family. Here my wife helps with the English homework and explaining the meaning of the word Princess...

Sometimes it is very helpful to have someone support you. It could be a friend or it can be in a relationship. Sometimes it is just a tiny bit of help that is needed.

We arrived at the train station in Aprigliano, and we were lost, totally unaware of what a small town in Calabria was like. We must have looked the part because the man carrying the green bag approached us and offered to help. We told him we hoped to find my grandfather's birth record, as my uncle had over 15 years prior. We were incredibly fortunate he was on our train because very few people in Cosenza and environs speak English. However, he spoke excellent English because he had lived and worked in Canada. He retired in Aprigliano, where his wife grew up. He told us that the municipal records were in another town. He did not know where exactly, but he got us on the right track (no pun intended) or we would have wandered around Vico, the location of the train station, all day. By way of conversation, he informed us that he lived a contented life in retirement due to the good fortune of having three pensions! Traveling alone in a foreign country is not always easy, but it often leads to the most interesting experiences meeting special people.
